The Deer Park Bypass meanders through a rapidly changing residential and industrial landscape within the flat basalt plains landscape. The landscape anchors the striking form and colour of retaining walls and bridge abutments and accentuates the serpentine form of the ribbed metal noise walls to offer a distinct visual identity for the Bypass. Sugar Gum windrows and conifer hedges will establish over time as expressions of the vernacular landscape.
The Moorooboon wetland at East Bentleigh Secondary College is one of a number of sustainability initiatives that has seen the school take out a host of awards. The wetland treats about six million litres of roof water per year, which is stored in an underground tank to be used to irrigate the soccer pitch. The wetland has become home to a new ecosystem of frogs and birds and is a vital part of the school’s outdoor classroom program and Green Machine school student sustainability team.
